Netherlands special guest during the launching of WASH Alliance
Six civil society organizations (SCOs) from the Netherlands; Simavi, WASTE, ICCO, AMREF, RAIN and Akvo formed a Dutch WASH Alliance (DWA), working together in eight different countries around the world including Bangladesh. They manage a grant of €45 million provided by the Netherlands government aiming at increasing water supply, sanitation and hygiene coverage. Together with Bangladeshi NGOs they form the Bangladesh WASH Alliance, implementing projects all over the country.
The Netherlands embassy Dhaka intends to assist the Bangladesh WASH Alliance project in finding interested Dutch private sector for bringing innovative technologies and ideas to Bangladesh. The embassy is already working with IFC (International Finance Corporation), a member of the World Bank Group, and its partners in introducing and helping textile factories in Bangladesh to save $1 million and reduce water consumption by 75 million litres under a “cleaner-production initiative,” designed to make the country’s garment industry more sustainable and globally competitive.
