1 DUTCH PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS: VOTING FROM ABROAD

The registration process for non-resident Dutch voters in the elections for the House of Representatives has started and will run until 1 February 2017. The election is on 15 March, 2017. If you wish to vote from abroad in the elections for the House of Representatives on 15 March 2017, please find the instructions on how to do so in the Related documents section.

2 NFP Tailor-Made Training programme 2017

The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) promote capacity building by providing training and education for professionals. The NFP was initiated and is fully funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the budget for development cooperation. EP-Nuffic is responsible for the management of the NFP.

3 Report: Conference Sustainable Sourcing in the Garment Sector

On 29 September 2016, the conference on Sustainable Sourcing in the Garment Sector (SSGS) took place in Dhaka. SSGS convened 380 high-profile participants from over 190 organizations, to discuss sustainable versus unsustainable sourcing and showcase new sourcing practices that would be beneficial to all stakeholders in the garment value chain. The conference report is now available for download.

4 Opportunities for business development - the Blue Gold Innovation Fund.

The Blue Gold Innovation Fund makes it possible for Bangladesh and Netherlands based companies to try and test new innovative approaches and discover new pathways for the development of the Blue Gold polders in Bangladesh.

6 PROOFS Newsletter

The Dutch funded PROOFS project (Profitable Opportunities for Food Security) enables poor farmers to increase their income, improve their nutrition as well as their drinking water supply and sanitation. The program, which benefits and estimated 340,000 people in the north and south-west of Bangladesh, has for example enabled farmers to export potatoes to three countries. 7 SaFal Newsletter

SaFaL project is funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and implemented by Solidaridad. The project is facilitating to improve the productivity of the smallholder farmers through improved farm management practices, improving access to quality inputs, reducing the use of agro-chemicals, and introducing new production practices. SaFaL is undertaking an integrated approach to make agriculture more productive through developing business models and creating employment opportunities for thousands of farmers and supply chain actors in southwest Bangladesh.

8 Netherlands Presidency of the Council of the EU

The Netherlands will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1 January to 30 June 2016. It envisions a Union that focuses on the essentials, creating growth and jobs through innovation, whilst simultaneously connecting with civil society. 9 Stemmen vanuit het Buitenland (in Dutch)

Nederlanders die in het buitenland wonen en niet meer ingeschreven staan in een Nederlandse gemeente, kunnen zich registreren om te stemmen voor het raadgevend referendum over de Associatieovereenkomst tussen de Europese Unie en Oekraïne. Ook als u zich al eens geregistreerd heeft voor eerdere verkiezingen is dit een verplichting.

10 Travellers can reach foreign ministry 24/7 at +31 247 247 247

Foreign minister Bert Koenders and travel expert Floortje Dessing have launched a new central helpline for travellers. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs can now be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week at +31 247 247 247 for practical travel tips and assistance. Travellers abroad can also contact the Ministry online and via Twitter. It is estimated that about 3,000 people per day will use the new services.
